4 Car Safety Tips During Pregnancy

It's not easy to drive when you're reaching around your 25-pound belly disguised as a basketball. Studies show that expectant moms are more likely to be involved in accidents than women who aren't pregnant. It might have something to do with driving under the influence of pregnancy, which can make you feel tired, nauseated, dizzy and unfocused.

Most moms-to-be continue driving throughout their pregnancies. It's safe for most women, even during the last weeks, if you take a few extra precautions as you get behind the wheel.

#1 Refrain From Driving

If you don't have to drive in your last trimester, don't. The proximity of the steering wheel to your baby bump makes it easy to hurt yourself, even in small fender bender.

#2 Right Way To Wear A Seat Belt
If you do drive, make sure not to put the seat belt over your baby bump. Go under and around so that, in the case of an accident, the strap doesn't injure your baby.

#3 Don't Lean Forward

When wearing your seat belt, even wearing it correctly, lean back. You don't want to have constant pressure your belly.

#4 Use A Bump Belt

There are bump belts that are made specifically for pregnant women, where you are raised a bit higher and the belt is made to go under your belly.
